ADVANCING OPPORTUNITIES FOR EVERY LEARNER
Michigan House of Representatives
Representative Tim Kelly has built a career centered on strengthening Michigan’s education system and ensuring students with disabilities have access to quality education.
Rep. Kelly is the Chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on School Aid and the Department of Education. This role gives him direct influence over funding for special education and related services.
Representative Kelly’s education focus is long-standing. He’s served in multiple state-level education policy roles and as a special advisor for the Michigan Department of Career Development, where he worked on workforce and training pipelines.
In his current term, he’s backed legislation to strengthen teacher preparation standards and supported a primary “Talent Together” Grow-Your-Own Teacher initiative, which provides no-cost certification pathways for aspiring Michigan educators, including special education teachers.
Representative Kelly has engaged directly with center-based special education programs. Saginaw ISD highlighted his visit to the Melvin G. Millet Learning Center, a special education public school serving students ages 3 to 26 with significant cognitive, physical, and health impairments, noting his role in statewide education decisions that affect such programs.
By pairing budget leadership with attention to specialized schools and the educators pipeline, Representative Kelly remains closely connected to issues that matter for individuals with disabilities, from Birth to 26 years in his district and across the State of Michigan.
